The Taipei International Travel Fair (ITF) kicked off yesterday at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, showcasing a record-breaking 1,500 booths representing 111 global destinations, according to the Tourism Administration.
The 38th edition of the fair features prominent participation from countries including Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, Thailand, Guam, Indonesia, and several of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies, highlighting Taiwan’s increasing appeal as a tourism hub.
Tourism Administration Director-General Chou Yung-hui expressed optimism about the fair’s potential to boost Taiwan’s visibility on the international stage. With the COVID-19 pandemic officially behind, Chou emphasized the agency’s focus on sustainable development and digitization to position Taiwan as a premier travel destination.
Taiwan Visitors Association Chairwoman Chien Yu-yen emphasized the expo’s growth, asserting that Taipei’s event now rivals major global tourism fairs such as Berlin’s Internationale Tourismus-Börse.
Chien also celebrated Taiwan’s recent tourism accolades, including being named the “Best LGBTQ Trend Destination” by the Spartacus International Gay Guide and ranking third in the Global Muslim Travel Index among non-OIC destinations.
At the opening ceremony, President William Lai highlighted the attendance of high-ranking tourism officials from Paraguay, Guatemala, and Japan, reinforcing Taiwan’s commitment to international tourism collaboration. He called on local governments to collaborate with the central administration to enhance facilities for travelers.
In a recent development, the Tourism Administration introduced the “Taiwan Tourism 100 Spotlights” campaign, developed in partnership with 22 municipalities to promote Taiwan’s attractions to both international and domestic tourists.
The new tourism slogan, “Taiwan — Waves of Wonder,” is already being rolled out worldwide, further solidifying Taiwan’s growing profile as a must-visit destination.
